Rihanna: Barbados’ best ambassador
Barbados, the residence of cricket, sugar cane and golden rum, is “[far more renowned these days] as the household island of Rihanna”, Lisa Snowdon writes in The Day-to-day Mail.
And with great purpose. Given that Rihanna’s pop career exploded into stardom, the profile of Barbados has changed from sunny Caribbean destination to celebrity island getaway, with renowned names such as Simon Cowell spending Christmas on the beach.
Of course, the island has continually been in a position to accommodate “all varieties of tourists”, regardless of spending budget, with the South supplying night life and the West offering quiet coastlines and unspoilt beaches. But Barbados’ profile has been given an added boost by the pop star, to the point exactly where not only is it a supply of tourist discussion, but it also becomes impossible to write about one particular without the other.
Nonetheless, the lasting impression of a Caribbean vacation does not modify. Snowdon’s article concludes without having a mention of the pop star: “I produced a mental note to save my pennies,” she writes, “so I can 1 day have a beautiful home on the beach in Barbados.”
